While I was at yoga Sunday morning the girls made these robots with
Joe. The robots names were Gigan and Godzilla.

This lamp used to hang in my Mom and Dad's first apartment. It is a
70's spun lucite swag lamp. My mom said at the time it was a "I love
you" purchase. We recently noticed the lamp in one of the homes in the
movie Edward Scissorhands.

It is fun to finally have a good place for the lamp. Joe rewired the
lamp and hung it in Monti's room.

This morning we woke up to snow covered roofs and snow showers. By the afternoon we were on the sidelines of Monti's first soccer game. It was very chilly and rainy.

Joe asked Monti if she would call herself a great soccer player, an OK soccer player or a bad soccer player? She quickly without much thought answered " a bad soccer player". Somehow she still seems to enjoy herself.

I went with Monti’s class to the science museum for a field trip. We had lots of parents going so I had only Monti and Solomon in my group. Solomon was much easier to handle than Dahlia so my trip to the museum was much smoother than usual. We enjoyed the butterflies and the new tree exhibit.

We saw an IMAX film on the Grand Canyon and the Colorado river; it depressed me as usual. So many of these films just talk about all the damage we have done to the planet. Yes… it’s all true but I get the feeling the message is a bit “too little, too late”. In light of this, it makes it difficult to keep a positive attitude and to continue to do the small actions we do.

Monti’s first grade class had a surprise baby shower for her teacher. As the shower progressed the kids just kept getting closer and closer to their teacher.

The class gave her a book about what makes “a good mother”. Each student created a page. The common theme was ” A good mother is nice.” One student wrote ” A good mother is crazy”. By that definition I must be an outstanding mother.

All that blue tape just starts to mess with your eyes. It kept reminding me of Mat’s Tron costume. For a person that hates to use anything disposable it was painful to go through six rolls of tape.

Such an innocent picture makes me think of the awful dreams she sometimes has. Dahlia told me about a bad dream she had the other morning. She was not upset in the least bit while telling me. In her dream all the cats turned into goblins. Then the goblins cut up Monti and Dahlia with a knife into little pieces. They were then sold in the Costco meat section where everyone ate them up.

Dahlia makes peace with the Bush punching bag after she pummeled the
thing for about five minutes.

The woman here is Lee Welles the author of the Gaia girls books. They are fantastical books about a little girl eco-warrior. She signed the books for the girls.

The girls have their eyes closed and hand on their heart as they pledge to support free trade chocolate. After the story presentation about chocolate and Africa the group paraded around the convention center shouting “FREE TRADE”.

Monti also came home with a business card from the fest made of elephant poo. She proudly brought it to school to show off to her teacher and friends.

Saturday was a beautiful day so we finally jumped into the geocaching world. Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use a GPS to hide and seek containers with other participants in the activity. Here Dahlia discovers our first geocache treasure.
