I planned on loading up on some items for our upcoming Halloween
party. Thrift stores have always been a goldmine when it comes to
Halloween needs. The thrift store opened at 9 am on Columbus Day with
a 50% off sale. I wanted to get there right as they opened for the
best selection. I arrived at 9:20 to find the parking lot almost
completely full. It was absolutely crazy but I did find some great
deals.

After Annie Warbucks
After we saw the play that Monti had auditioned for a month earlier we
were hungry for dinner. Three of us wanted to eat at our Chinese
restaurant in town but Dahlia did not. Her complaint about the
restaurant was she doesn’t like all the Chinese speaking. -
Party and babysitter
We went to a Halloween party this weekend in the neighborhood. The 13
year old girl from next door babysat the kids. Everything seemed to go
well on that front. As we were explaining to the sitter what time they
should be to sleep Dahlia asked if the sitter knew what they liked to
eat for breakfast in the morning. She had no problem letting us go. It
was nice to get away for a couple hours. Thanks to Maggie for letting
me use her chicken costume in a pinch. -
School mates
Here are some of Monti’s school mates. The girl behind her in the pink
is named Onti. She was Monti’s reading buddy in kindergarten. -
Overalls
I picked up some overalls for Joe at a thrift store for his farmer
costume. He liked them so much he wore them to take the girls to dance
class. All the kids were staring at him like he was a clown. They just
kept waiting for him to do something funny. -
Dahlia’s speech appointment
We met with the school’s speech therapist this week regarding Dahlia’s sh- and th- sounds. The therapist said she wasn’t too concerned about those sounds but she was more concerned with her adding or dropping syllables on multi-syllabic words. She was asking Dahlia what things were around the room when she pointed to the Dell on her desk and asked “what do you call that?” She acted liked she had never seen a computer before so the speech therapist pointed to her stuffed unicorn animal and asked what it was. Dahlia said, “It’s my unicorner.” Of all the words she could have picked she chose the one that Dahlia has always had problems with. While there the kids colored some pictures while we talked. When the therapist asked if she could keep the pictures Monti immediately handed hers over. Monti loves the idea of her work being hung up for display in someone’s office. Dahlia on the other hand kept hers. The speech therapists asked her if she wanted to give it to her Mom, Dad or sister. Dahlia simply insisted “It’s mine!”

Play practice
Tuesdays before school a man called Howie comes in to help the kids at
school put together a play production. Anyone who wants a part gets a
part so he has his hands full. This time they are working on the play
“Enchanted”. Monti along with all the other smaller kids has the role
of some type of critter. It should be really interesting to see how
the final performance turns out. Truthfully it seems like just an hour
before school for kids to hang out with their friends. -
Tipping the door man for getting you a taxi
We found out that if you don’t tip the doorman after he opens your
door for you he will tell the taxi driver the wrong location to go to.
At first we thought the idea was a little far fetched because the
passengers would hear the wrong location being given. Later that
evening we learned by experience how they do it. Our taxi driver took
us to Palms Place instead of The Palms costing us several extra
dollars in back tracking. I can’t help but feel this mistake was a
perfect example of the subtle way doormen express their disappointment
in not getting a tip. -
Sights in Vegas
This man was passed out at the mall and people were starting to harass
him. Guys would playfully kick him or pose with him for photos without
him stirring one bit. I started worrying he may be more than passed
out. Security headed over and gave him a sternum rub which woke him up
instantly. To do a sternum rub you take one hand and make a fist with
the middle finger sticking up so the second knuckle sticks out of the
fist. Put it on the person’s sternum and press down firmly while
rubbing up and down. Supposedly if this doesn’t wake someone nothing
will. -
Morning after
Friday morning was rough! At the Bank dance club previously mentioned the night before a women getting bottle service was feeding us free drinks all evening so I
drank way more than I should have. Room service brought us up some
much needed food and water so we could salvage as much of the day as
possible.
