A good mess is always the sign of a great party! Monti was very sweet when she thanked me at the end of the night for letting her have the Halloween party but when she asked about having another one next year I could only say “Maybe.”

Just like her dad
Monti gravitated over to the video games at the movie theater. There is just something about guns and games that the children just love but steering wheels attached to video games are almost as equally tempting.

High School Musical 3
Going to see HSM3. All the girls at the party had matching HSM purple t-shirts.
Saturday morning before the Halloween party we went to see High School Musical 3 with Knicole’s friends. She wanted to see the movie for her birthday. The kids had a fabulous time. The movie was wall-to-wall full of new songs just waiting to get stuck in the minds of adults and children alike.

Book fair
It was pajama night at the book fair on Wednesday. We arrived at 5:00
after dinner. Dahlia was hiding behind my legs for the first half hour
yet she denied being scared of Clifford the big red dog. She finally
gained the courage to give Clifford a weak high five but there would
be no hugs for this dog in her future. We were on our way out of the
library when they announced Dahlia’s name for the free book giveaway.
I couldn’t get the girls to leave again after Dahlia received her
book. Monti wanted to stay until eight to see if she too would get
called for a free book. I gave up the fight. They read in the library
while I played games on my iPhone. -
Annie gets lost
We had to wait 4-5 days before we took the hamster out of her cage.
The kids have been counting down the days. On Wednesday we took her
out of her cage for the first time. She was petrified so we let her
simply explore the room for a while. We discovered she could smash
herself under the door to get out of the room. I told the kids to
watch her and sit by the door. They called me up 5 minutes later to
tell me they had lost her. How the heck was I going to find a hamster
in our house? Monti told me she was sure Annie had left the room even
though she had not seen her leave. After an hour of looking we found
her smashed behind Monti’s nightstand tangled on some electric cords.
I was scared to move the table because I was convinced she was dead.
Monti was brave and investigated the situation further. The hamster
was alive. We were all relieved. We learned some very valuable lessons
about having a small pet. -
Impulse buy
I am not sure what came over me at PetSmart but we ended up coming
home with a new pet hamster. The girls named her Annie. They are crazy
about her! She fits perfectly on Monti’s shelf in her bedroom. Monti’s
bedroom is essentially the staging area for bedtime where we read
books. All the sleeping is done in Dahlia’s room so there is no
worries about Annie’s nocturnal habits keeping any child awake at
night. -
Corky’s dance
Sunday morning was hell for Corky. The girls had a sleepover the night
before so there were 4 girls lavishing all their attention on one
little scrawny creature. The morning was pretty rough on me too. All
the girls were up and wanting breakfast by 5:30 am. -
Spelling challenge
Monti has 10 spelling words each week and 5 challenge words. She has a
tough time getting them right. Last week I decided she needed to
remember them by hearing the rhythm of spelling them out loud. Some of
the words need little songs to go with the spelling. Thanks to “Men
without Hats” one of this week’s challenge words should be easy to

Some friendly ghosts
Monti and I made some friendly ghosts out of sheet covered beer
bottles and foil. We worked on this while watching Casper. -
School mates
Here are some of Monti’s school mates. The girl behind her in the pink
is named Onti. She was Monti’s reading buddy in kindergarten.
