We met with the school’s speech therapist this week regarding Dahlia’s sh- and th- sounds. The therapist said she wasn’t too concerned about those sounds but she was more concerned with her adding or dropping syllables on multi-syllabic words. She was asking Dahlia what things were around the room when she pointed to the Dell on her desk and asked “what do you call that?” She acted liked she had never seen a computer before so the speech therapist pointed to her stuffed unicorn animal and asked what it was. Dahlia said, “It’s my unicorner.” Of all the words she could have picked she chose the one that Dahlia has always had problems with. While there the kids colored some pictures while we talked. When the therapist asked if she could keep the pictures Monti immediately handed hers over. Monti loves the idea of her work being hung up for display in someone’s office. Dahlia on the other hand kept hers. The speech therapists asked her if she wanted to give it to her Mom, Dad or sister. Dahlia simply insisted “It’s mine!”
